The disparity in pay between young players and vets can be MASSIVE in the NFL. I’m not sure what it’s like in other sports. But NFL rookies, even highly drafted ones, get a 4yr contract (1st rounders have an optional 5th year) that pay them a relatively cheap salary. So you get 4-5 years of cheap play while they are very young. Once that contract ends, they have to sign a new one/be extended. In that time, one of two things will be true: A) they will be a middle or poor player that will get an appropriate salary. That doesn’t mean they’re useless, but they probably aren’t changing your fortunes.
